2012 Games season
dates for Individual Athletes, Teams, and Masters
CrossFit Open: February
22 to March 25
CrossFit Regionals: April 27 to May 27
CrossFit Games: July 13-15
CrossFit Games
Individual Men and Women
The Open consists of five workouts over five weeks
between February 22nd-March 25th. A weekly CrossFit
Open workout is posted for everyone to complete. The
competitors must either have their performance
confirmed at a CrossFit affiliate, or submit a
videotape of their performance to the Games website.
The top 60 athletes from the open in each region will
continue on to the second stage of the competition,
Regionals. Regionals are a three-day competition where
seventeen Regional competitions worldwide will take
place weekly April 27 to May 27. At the Regional
level, individuals are judged, and reps are counted
for each workout. No more than three men and three
women will advance to the third and final stage of the
competition – the CrossFit Games at the Home Depot
Center in Carson, Calif. The 2012 Games will run from
July 13-15.
CrossFit Games Team
2012 CrossFit Games
Team
On February 22nd, the team competition starts with the
Open. All of a team’s members must register on the
Games site. The team captain then must set up a team
account and add the members of their team in order to
qualify. For the first time ever in the games history,
affiliates may have more than one team. Once the Open
begins, however, athletes cannot be added or moved
between teams.
Team athletes will complete the five Open workouts
like individual competitors. If an athlete chooses to
register with a team, the athlete can still compete in
the individual competition at the Regional level, if
they qualify. A team’s top three male and female
scores in the week’s workout will contribute to the
team’s standings.
At the conclusion of the Open, the top 30 teams in
each Region will advance to Regionals. A team’s
Regional roster must contain only members from the
group of athletes that represented it during the Open.
Teams are comprised of three men and three women.
Six team members will complete workouts together over
the course of three days. Sometimes, only two members
will do the workout, sometimes four, sometimes all
six. No more than three teams will advance to the
CrossFit Games Affiliate Cup.
CrossFit Games
Masters
The Masters competition is for athletes ages 45 and
older. For the second year, the Masters level
competition will be split into four age categories –
45-49, 50-54, 55-59, and 60-plus.
Masters athletes will register in the Open, complete
the workouts just as the individuals. Some age
divisions will have modified standards, but all
workouts must be completed as prescribed.
Masters competitors will not have to compete at the
Regional level. The top 20 in each age category will
receive invitations to compete at the CrossFit Games.
